Humans can't go back to a time without plastic!

Where does plastic come from?
Through catalytic cracking, separation and purification, various organic small molecule compounds can be prepared from petroleum produced by the evolution of the earth for hundreds of millions of years.  Further polymerization can obtain synthetic polymers, including commonly used plastics, fibers, rubber, coatings, adhesives and so on.
More than 100 years ago, man invented the first synthetic polymer -- phenolic resin, whose emergence marked a new era of understanding and application of materials and materials after stone tools, ceramics, cement, copper, iron, aluminum and steel.

How important is plastic?
According to 2019 statistics, global plastic production was about 359 million tons (China produced 81.84 million tons of plastic products), 1.8485 billion tons of steel and 4.1 billion tons of cement.  If the average density of plastics is 0.9, the average density of iron and steel is 7.8, and the density of cement is 3.1, the volume production of plastics in the world has reached 26% of the sum of iron and steel and cement, which is an amazing proportion!

From 1950 to 2015, 8.3 billion tons of plastic products were produced, of which about 6 billion tons became waste (about 4.9 billion tons were directly buried or abandoned, and 800 million tons were directly incinerated).  About 2 billion tonnes (100 million of which are recycled plastics) are still in use.  Further growth is expected, with global plastic consumption expected to grow by 8% a year.
Three forms of polymer materials: plastic, rubber, fiber
In People's Daily life, why there are so many disposable cups, boxes, packaging materials, agricultural film materials are made of plastic?  This is because compared with metal (iron) materials, inorganic non-metal materials (cement, ceramic), large plastic has small density, specific strength, high modulus, corrosion resistance, low cost, often is the traditional pottery, copper, iron, aluminum, steel and other appliances price of 1/10-1/100), good insulation, heat preservation, sound insulation, shockproof characteristics such as high performance.  Because of its light and cheap, easy to press, blow molding into thin quality of life necessities, plastic was used as a "disposable".

Plastic is more than just a "disposable" substance -- in fact, it permeates every aspect of our lives -- becoming an integral part of modern products such as wires and cables, integrated circuit boards, and photoresist used in chip manufacturing.  The main functions and structural parts of mobile phones, computers, televisions, refrigerators, washing machines and air conditioners are inseparable from plastic.  Cars, ships, aircraft, high-speed rail, building main structure and interior decoration, can not use plastic;  Most of the drug containers, infusion tubes and disposable syringes used in hospitals are plastic;  Without plastic seedling film, greenhouse film, there will be modern agriculture?  Plastic pipes are increasingly used for water supply and drainage, natural gas and oil transportation in urban and rural construction.
It can be said that human beings can not go back to the era without plastic!  Plastic, can't be banned;  Plastic, too, is impossible to ban.
Plastic is ubiquitous in everything from household appliances, to chips, medical and sanitary products, to airplanes and high-speed trains.
If plastic is like other materials -- it's not that cheap to use;  Throw, not so willing, it will be regarded as disposable goods by people?  If it is not discarded after use, will it become "white pollution"?
Has plastic ever been?
Q: It is regarded as a fundamental change of the world and China's coal energy to change the direct combustion of coal into the deep processing of coal until the production of carbon based (plain) materials.  What's wrong with burning 80% of petroleum-based raw materials as fuel and using less than 20% of the rest to make synthetic materials, including plastics?  It can be said that the emergence of plastic and its synthetic polymer is the optimal use of oil and an epoch-making scientific and technological creation of human beings.
Q: Why are there 1 billion used tires in the world every year not called "black pollution"?  Investigate its reasons: one is the rubber tire than the major, can not fly like plastic, floating up;  Second, orderly collection and processing have been basically achieved.
Q: Stone tools, pottery, copper and iron objects discarded after human use have been buried in the ground for hundreds, thousands or even tens of thousands of years. Have they been isolated and degraded?  In modern times, the building objects (such as Bridges, buildings, roads, tunnels, etc.) that use a lot of cement are abandoned. If they are not destroyed or damaged by explosion, have you ever seen natural degradation?  Although it is not possible to determine the exact years for the segregation or degradation of various materials in the natural environment, it is certain that plastics are decades, centuries, or even thousands of years shorter than stone tools, ceramics, cement, copper, iron, aluminum, and steel.
