Where does plastic come from?  
 
Through catalytic cracking, separation and purification, various organic small molecule compounds can be prepared from petroleum produced by the evolution of the earth for hundreds of millions of years.  Further polymerization can obtain synthetic polymers, including commonly used plastics, fibers, rubber, coatings, adhesives and so on.

How important is plastic?  
 
According to 2019 statistics, global plastic production was about 359 million tons (China produced 81.84 million tons of plastic products), 1.8485 billion tons of steel and 4.1 billion tons of cement.  If the average density of plastics is 0.9, the average density of iron and steel is 7.8, and the density of cement is 3.1, the volume production of plastics in the world has reached 26% of the sum of iron and steel and cement, which is an amazing proportion!  
 


From 1950 to 2015, 8.3 billion tons of plastic products were produced, of which about 6 billion tons became waste (about 4.9 billion tons were directly buried or abandoned, and 800 million tons were directly incinerated).  About 2 billion tonnes (100 million of which are recycled plastics) are still in use.  Further growth is expected, with global plastic consumption expected to grow by 8% a year.

It can be said that human beings can not go back to the era without plastic!  Plastic, can't be banned;  Plastic, too, is impossible to ban.  
 
Plastic is ubiquitous in everything from household appliances, to chips, medical and sanitary products, to airplanes and high-speed trains.  
 
If plastic is like other materials -- it's not that cheap to use;  Throw, not so willing, it will be regarded as disposable goods by people?  If it is not discarded after use, will it become "white pollution"?
